After a lot of

I Love You Phillip Morris
is finally scheduled to be
in theatres this month,
around the country!

The film has been in limbo for about a year. Distribution problems and legal battles held the film up. After original difficulty finding a U.S. distributor, likely due to its explicit gay sexual content, the film was re-edited and now being shown around the country. And it's getting good reviews, for the most part!

What could be more fun for JIm  Carrey than to play flamboyantly gay in I Love You Phillip Morris?

Based on a bizarrely true story, the film follows Steven Russell (Carrey) as he transitions from being a devoted husband, father and church organist to a gay man who’s determined to live like there’s no tomorrow after a life-changing event.

In order to enjoy the extravagant gay lifestyle he thinks he deserves, he ends up running a series of cons to get what he needs. But when the law catches up with him, he lands in state prison where he meets Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). He falls head over heels in love and begins to work toward freeing Phillip from prison so that they can be together – on the outside.

The result is a quirky, subversive film that is such a nice change of pace from not just a majority of Carrey’s previous films, but from anything else in theaters right now. It’s great to see a completely different type of complex gay character portrayed, flaws and everything, rather than just for laughs or high drama. The story is so ludicrous, it’s hard to believe that it’s based in reality, but that’s what makes it that much more enjoyable.

It's funny to look at the evolution of film and tv. What was once scandalous, is not now. To think Making Love was scandalous in 1982, now fast forward nearly 30 years, and you have Jim Carrey cracking jokes about sucking cock! It is a great story that will push the envelope for some audiences in mainstream America, and I think if a big name like Jim Carrey wasn't in it, mainstream America would probably not be going out to see this film.

On average, it's  getting  3.5/5       8/10   and   B+ and B-    by  most critics.  And I would agree.
It is funny, quirky and so unbelievable! It is very amusing, sometimes juvenille, but overall entertaining.
