Jonathan D Lovitz ...Living Life in Technicolor
" I was watching the video in the lobby [at jury duty] about how it is honorable and one should feel so proud to be apart of the jury." explains Jonathan. " And it hit me that in this justice system I cannot make impartial judgments of my peers because I am not their equal in the eyes of the law.
Since I can’t get married or adopt a child in the state of New York, I can’t possibly be an impartial judge of a citizen when I am considered a second class citizen in the eyes of the justice system.
And it started with me posting that on my Facebook, and a friend with a blog posted it and all of a sudden it got to the Village Voice and Perez Hilton and the Chicago Tribune. And then all these media outlets are covering the story and a couple days later I’m on MSNBC covering human rights. All these outlets are calling me an “accidental advocate,” and that can happen to anybody at anytime. I’ve said from the first minute that this happened that we have our civic responsibilities, but it’s up to us and we don’t have to do it quietly. Hopefully, I was able to get one person in the courtroom to think differently."
Actor, singer and model Jonathan stands out in a crowd. Jonathan has an extensive stage resume and is as down home as apple pie!
Jonathan is one of those actors who exudes positive energy that effects those around him. His smile, is without a doubt contagious. "Happiness and positivity is a choice. I much prefer a life lived in brilliant Technicolor than black and white!" he says.
And in a recent interview, he revealed, "I’ve always dreamed of a political career, but now I am really enjoying my role as an advocate and speaker for the causes of equality, marriage rights, and creating safe zones for gay youth and college students.
I feel like every day of this journey on tv and on stage is such a blessing and I never want to take a moment of it for granted. I hope and pray that there is a lot more performing on the horizon but I am also embracing my new-found role as advocate and spokesperson for the causes that mean the most to me. I want to be one of those actors who uses the gift of being the public eye to help as many people as possible. I hope this is only the beginning!"
